BF GOODRICH TO SUSPEND OPERATIONS AT SHAWINIGAN, QUEBEC, PLANT
AKRON, Ohio, July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The BFGoodrich Company (NYSE: GR) today announced that it will suspend operations at the Shawinigan, Quebec, vinyl compound manufacturing facility operated by the company's Geon Vinyl Division.
This action is being taken as part of a comprehensive program to reduce costs and improve the productivity of the company's vinyl compound manufacturing operations. Production will be transferred from the Shawinigan plant to other locations.
"Over the past year we've undertaken an effort to streamline and consolidate our compound production operations and make them more efficient and cost effective," said William F. Patient, president of BFG's Geon Vinyl Division. "These changes have made it possible for us to satisfy the record customer demand levels we now are experiencing and have given us additional capacity for growth in our compound business."
The mothballing of the Shawinigan facility will affect 98 employees and is effective Oct. 2, 1992. This action will have no negative effect on the company's current earnings and will result in substantial cost savings. BFGoodrich will continue to maintain the security, safety and environmental integrity of the plant site so that it could be reactivated at some future date.
The BFGoodrich Geon Vinyl Division is one of North America's leading producers of vinyl resins and compounds. The company also produces specialty chemicals and supplies components and services to the aviation industry. Sales for 1991 totaled $2.5 billion.
