BEYONDMAIL FOR VINES SELECTED AS BEST E-MAIL SOLUTION; LARGE BANYAN SITES CHOOSE BEYONDMAIL OVER COMPETITION

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Beyond Incorporated, a leading enterprise-wide e-mail and workgroup applications vendor, today announced that several large corporate accounts have chosen BeyondMail for VINES as their e-mail package of choice over leading competitors. Large Banyan accounts who have selected BeyondMail as their VINES messaging solution include: Equitable Life, Meridian Oil, NEC Technologies Inc., Phoenix Technologies, The Department of Transportation, U.S. Marine Corps and Warner Music International.
"We were looking for something that was totally VINES-integrated," said Tim Baranowsky, MIS network manager at NEC Technologies Inc., a leading supplier of computers and peripherals for the North American market, headquartered in Boxboro, Mass. "In the past we've used regular VINES mail, but many of our users need the advanced features that BeyondMail offers, such as forms routing and the forms designer. We considered other packages but they are too basic, and are merely a front-end to VINES mail."
At Meridian Oil, the countries eighth largest natural gas producer based in Forth Worth, Texas, Carolyn Hanshaw, manager of IS client services is implementing BeyondMail for 1,000 users. According to Hanshaw, BeyondMail for VINES was the only package able to satisfy the varied requests of her user base. "BeyondMail was the only e-mail package that had the features we were looking for, features that provided a remote solution as a well as the means to automate e-mail enabled applications."
Before choosing BeyondMail, Hanshaw considered Reach e-mail, but opted for Beyond's solution because of BeyondMail's rules-based functionality. "When I send messages it is important for me to be able to determine who had read them and who has not. With Beyond's rules- based technology, I can set up a program that allows me to easily check message receipts."
According to Glen Russo, senior vice president at BridgeWorks, a Banyan Premier reseller and the Meridian Oil reseller based in Houston, Beyond distinguishes itself from its competition in a variety of ways. "We think the two distinguishing features of BeyondMail are the forms capabilities that allow users to develop easy-to-use applications within e-mail, and the rules-based processing that provides users with the ability to create true application programs in e-mail." In addition to reselling BeyondMail for VINES, BridgeWorks also chose to install BeyondMail as their in-house e-mail package.
BeyondMail is a cross-platform, LAN-based enterprise messaging system that combines rules and forms to provide customers with both simple and sophisticated mail-based workgroup applications. BeyondMail for VINES integrates directly with VINES StreetTalk and uses the VINES Intelligent Messaging as its mail transport, allowing users to take advantage of the full functionality of BeyondMail within their Banyan network.
BeyondMail for VINES for both the DOS and Windows environments is available at $995 per 10-user license.
Beyond Incorporated, based in Cambridge, Mass., is the leading developer of mail enabled applications for enterprise messaging. Privately held, Beyond has regional offices throughout North America as well as a network of international distributors.
