BEYOND THE SEA D A; They say life's a beach, so bring the coast home for a nautical but nice look.

Oh, we do like to be beside the seaside even if the wind is whipping the sand into our sandwich picnic. There is something stoical and deeply British about our love of the coast. And it's not about sipping a rum punch on some far-flung exotic location.

No, I'm talking about the adventure that is visiting our own beautiful shores - and that's just battling the weather!

With so many of our beaches being awarded blue flag status, making them among the cleanest in Europe, there are lots of reasons to be inspired by them.

Even if the closest you get is queuing up outside the Cod Father chippie for a fish supper on a Friday night, you can still give a nod to things nautical.

By that I mean stripes, natural fabrics, woven baskets and driftwood. It's all a little bit rustic and homely and as fresh as the salty breeze through your hair.

And if you add a bit of Blackpool rock and a 'Kiss Me Quick' hat, then that's all the better!

These are most definitely worth keeping for those summer days when you fancy a seaside sundowner. It could be a hot cup of tea or a G&T - it doesn't matter, so long as it makes you smile.
