Broadchurch (ITV, tomorrow, 9pm) | Jodie Whittaker is one of Britain's best young actresses and has a big future ahead of her.

HOME CURED LOCAL SALMON WITH ORIENTAL BROTH, FENNEL AND ORANGE SALAD But, where ITV is concerned, she's carving a niche for herself when it comes to playing grief-stricken mothers. A couple of years ago she appeared in Marchlands as a woman whose daughter had drowned. Now she's back on the channel in Broadchurch, and this time, her character has just lost her son.

Matched with 2009 Wild Ferment Chardonnay, Yalumba, Eden Valley, Australia "It's upsetting," she says of her role as grieving mum Ellie. "But good stuff should be hard, I think."

How true, and watching the performances of Jodie and co-star Andrew Buchan, who plays Ellie's husband, is certainly an emotional experience. Both characters remain bereft during this second episode, while the police continue trying to find out who might have killed their son Danny. Several suspicious items found in the rooms of the victim and his sister Chloe could provide them with some vital clues.
