The Million Pound Drop Live Friday, Channel 4, 10pm Davina McCall's game show project is possibly the cruellest thing on telly. Contestants lovingly handle neat bundles of cash - "feel the money, bond with it" she tells them - and with one wrong answer lose whopping great amounts. Still, it's a right good laugh.

JLC: Turning Japanese Thursday, Channel Five, 9pm Justin Lee Collins heads to the land of the rising sun. The three-part trip begins in Tokyo's Harajuku district, where fashionable young people hang out wearing outlandish, theatrical costumes. He also discovers a shop selling women's underwear made for male proportions.

How TV Ruined Your Life Wednesday, BBC 2, 10pm Screen wipe satirist Charlie Brooker reveals how concepts such as love and success leave a lot to be desired when depicted on TV. In the first of this new six-part series, he looks at the gap between reality and public information films and grisly crime dramas.
