Petrol Age (Sky Atlantic, Thursday, 8pm) * He's played Doctor Who, battled extraterrestrials in Alien 3, and gone on holiday 'by mistake' with his drunken best mate Withnail.

But despite being one of Britain's most recognisable actors, Paul McGann is taking a break from pretending to be somebody else for a while so he can front this series, which began its run last week.

Although it's a bit of an odd fit for Sky Atlantic, the show is bound to go down a treat with those who love driving.

In each edition, McGann tells the absorbing story of British motoring, focusing on the iconic cars and incredible personalities that helped establish the UK as a major driving force in such a massive global industry.

This time around, he focuses his attention on Monmouth's Charles Rolls and Henry Royce, revealing how their product became a byword for wealth and glamour.
