BEST DRIVING; TV CHOICE.

Ice Road Truckers: Deadliest Roads (Five, Friday, 8pm) we in, the the i* THIS is arguably the best documentary series of the year, even if it is hard to watch any episode without being perched on the edge of your seat. For newcomers it features three of the toughest drivers on the box, a trio who would leave Top Gear's trio doffing their caps in admiration.

It began with Rick Yemm, Alex Debogorski and Lisa Kelly swapping the treacherous roads of Alaska for the even more perilous mountain roads of Delhi, Shimla, and the white knuckle routes through the Himalayas. On day one veteran IRT legend Alex Debogorski quit after an accident, fearing he was going to be killed by angry mobs, so Dave Redmon took over. The remaining drivers had to cope with oncoming buses and drivers overtaking them on blind corners.

There was also a Grand Canyon-style language barrier between themselves and their guides, falling rocks which threatened to wreck their creaky old trucks, and back on home turf, Rick's sick daughter took a turn for the worse.

This week, just when the IRTs think things can't get any worse, they have to contend with a snowstorm at the top of the treacherous Rohtang Pass. Lisa and Dave put the pedal to the metal to beat the blizzard, but they are forced to drive into the night to complete their trips.
