BEST COMEDY.

Modern Family (Sky1, Friday, 8pm) * WE'VE got The Office to thank for Modern Family's format - it's a familiar, fly-on-the-wall mockumentary-style series of scenes intercut with segments to camera - but the originality of the show is down to the excellent writing, which pitches keen observation against hilarious set-ups.

In this edition, daft dad Phil is so wrapped up in charming a prospective client that he fails to notice Claire's concern - that the smarmy real-estate broker seems to be acting rather inappropriately.

Meanwhile, Mitch and Cam's house is being fumigated, so Jay and Gloria agree to open up their home to the two dads and their baby Lily - but it's not long before problems start to arise from the less-than-ideal living arrangement. Greg Kinnear puts in a nice turn as Phil's slightly-too-friendly client Tad, proving that this series has no problem getting the big names to put in star turns.
