BEST BUY REPORTS SEPTEMBER 1993 SALES

 MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Best Buy Co., Inc. (NYSE: BBY) today reported sales for September 1993, a five-week period ended Oct. 2, the seventh period of its fiscal 1994 year.
 According to Allen Lenzmeier, chief financial officer, September 1993 sales of $266 million were 71 percent more than the $156 million achieved for the comparable five-week period last year. Year-to-date sales (31 weeks) of $1.27 billion represent an 85 percent increase, as compared to $688 million last year.
 Comparable store sales increased 22 percent for September 1993 and have increased 21 percent year-to-date. The company currently operates 127 stores, 69 of which were considered comparable in September. Best Buy opened three stores during September, its first in Tyler, Texas; and Flint, Mich.; and its 19th in the Chicagoland area.
 Best Buy is the nation's second largest publicly held consumer electronics and major appliance specialty retailer. The company, now in its 28th year, sells nationally recognized name brand consumer electronics, personal computers and home office products, major appliances, entertainment software and photographic equipment at 127 stores in 16 states in the central United States. Best Buy's common stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange, symbol BBY.
