BEST BUY REPORTS OCTOBER 1993 SALES

 MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Best Buy Co., Inc. (NYSE: BBY), today reported sales for October 1993, a four-week period ended Oct. 30, the eighth period of its fiscal 1994 year.
 According to Allen Lenzmeier, chief financial officer, October 1993 sales of $217 million were 67 percent more than the $130 million achieved for the comparable four-week period last year. Year-to-date sales (35 weeks) of $1.49 billion represent an 82 percent increase, as compared to $818 million last year.
 Comparable store sales increased 26 percent for October 1993 and have increased 22 percent year-to-date. The company currently operates 142 stores, 74 of which were considered comparable in October. The company expects the November comparable store sales increase to be lower due to comparisons against a 36 percent increase last November. In addition, the November computation will include the first eight stores opened in Chicago, where the company now operates 20 stores.
 Best Buy opened 15 stores during October, including entry into the major markets of Phoenix and Atlanta with five stores each. Single stores were opened in the new markets of Fort Smith, Ark.; Grand Rapids, Mich.; and Waco, Texas. In addition, the company opened its 20th store in the Chicagoland area and its second store in Toledo, Ohio.
 Best Buy is the nation's second largest publicly held consumer electronics and major appliance specialty retailer. The company, now in its 28th year, sells nationally recognized name brand consumer electronics, personal computers and home office products, major appliances, entertainment software and photographic equipment at 142 stores in 18 states primarily in the central U.S. Best Buy's common stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange, symbol BBY.
