BEST BUY REPORTS JANUARY SALES AND ADDITION OF HEWLETT PACKARD PRODUCTS

 MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Best Buy Co., Inc. (NYSE: BBY), today reported sales for January 1993, a four-week period ended Jan. 30, and the 11th period of its fiscal 1993 year.
 According to Allen Lenzmeier, chief financial officer, January 1993 sales of $148 million were 100 percent more than the $74 million achieved for the comparable four-week period last year. Year-to-date (48 weeks) sales of $1.48 billion represent a 74 percent increase, as compared to $850 million last year.
 Comparable store sales increased 30 percent for January 1992, and have increased 20 percent year-to-date. The company currently operates 111 stores, 73 of which were considered comparable in January.
 Best Buy is pleased to announce that Hewlett Packard Co. has authorized the sale of selected printers, scanners, facsimile machines, plotters and the palmtop PC through Best Buy's 111 stores. The addition of these high quality laser printers and personal computer products will enhance the company's offerings to consumers and small business customers.
 Best Buy is the nation's second largest publicly held consumer electronics and major appliance specialty retailer. The company, now in its 27th year, sells nationally recognized name brand consumer electronics, home office products, major appliances, entertainment software and photographic equipment at 111 stores in 14 states (Minnesota, Texas, Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, and South Dakota).
