 BERNARD VONDERSCHMITT JOINS CHIPS BOARD OF DIRECTORS
 SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- CHIPS and Technologies


Inc. (NASDAQ: CHPS) today announced Xilinx Inc. co-founder and President Bernard V. Vonderschmitt has been elected to the CHIPS board of directors.
 CHIPS and Technologies President, CEO and Chairman Gordon Campbell said, "The addition of Bernie Vonderschmitt to the CHIPS board of cirectors is a valuable addition to our company. Bernie is well known for his technical vision and as a savvy entrepreneur. We at CHIPS welcome him and look forward to his participation."
 Vonderschmitt joins NetFrame Systems Inc. CEO Enzo Torresi and private investor Gene Carter on the CHIPS board of directors.
 Currently Xilinx president, Vonderschmitt has made substantial contributions to the semiconductor industry. Prior to co-foundling Xilinx, the leader in programmable gate array technology, Vonderschmitt was vice president and general manager of the Zilog Inc. microprocessor division.
 Before joining Zilog, Vonderschmitt spent 20 years at RCA in various technical management positions, the last seven of which were in the position of vice president and general manager of the solid state division. He holds 13 patents and was awarded the "David Sarnoff Award" for outstanding contributions to integrated circuit development.
