BERLUSC-LONELY.

UNDER fire Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi tried to hug Barack Obama yesterday - but was given the brush off.

Mr Berlusconi was trying to get sympathy over his four ongoing trials.

In a break during the G8 summit in France, he told the US President that Italy was virtually a "dictatorship of Leftist judges". But the surprised Mr Obama got up from his seat and listened to Mr Berlusconi's woes through an interpreter without replying.

The Italian is involved in three trials for fraud or corruption and the Rubygate case where he is charged with paying for sex with an underage prostitute.
