A COLLISION OF MUSIC, ART AND MULTIMEDIA
Ben and Jerry's WOMAD is the first all-day music festival to include a
significant high-tech component -- FutureZone. The largest participant in FutureZone, Apple Computer Inc., will provide such multimedia areas and events as:
-- A digital portrait gallery of the day's events designed by world- renowned author/ photographer/producer, Rick Smolan, creator of the "Day in the Life" books. Rick will have a team of 10 photographers canvassing the festival.
-- A giant billboard-sized self portrait of Ben & Jerry's WOMAD Festival, created from photos concert attendees take of themselves. The photos will be digitally manipulated by a team of graphic artists, directed by Russell Brown, senior art director at Adobe Systems.
-- Brett Leonard -- cutting-edge director of "Lawnmower Man," the largest grossing independent film of 1992 -- will lead a team of video and MIDI artists who will create real-time music videos starring festival attendees. Camerapeople and festival attendees will be walking throughout WOMAD with Sharp VIEWCAM(TM) video cameras capturing visuals from the event.
-- A CD-ROM and multimedia exploration area will give festival attendees the opportunity to try the latest in these technologies.
-- Both kids and adults will enjoy a special interactive computer art area, sponsored by Broderbund Software, where they can create masks -- a modern version of the old standby, face painting.
Ben & Jerry's WOMAD is a multi-cultural gathering for all ages that will feature live performances by:
-- Peter Gabriel -- Drummers of Burundi -- Crowded House
-- Ziggy Marley & the Melody Makers -- Terem Quartet
-- Stereo MC's -- James -- PM Dawn
-- Sheila Chandra -- Shankar N' Caroline -- Inner Circle
-- John Trudell -- Jah Wobble's Invaders of the Heart
