BELLSOUTH TELECOMMUNICATIONS SETS REDEMPTION DATE FOR NOTES

 /NOTE TO EDITORS: We are advised that the following release was intended for transmission May 5/
 ATLANTA, May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- BellSouth Telecommunications, Inc., a subsidiary of BellSouth Corporation (NYSE: BLS), announced that the redemption date for the two debenture issues it is redeeming has been set for June 7.
 The company announced May 4 that it will sell 10-year notes, the proceeds of which will be used to refinance the two debenture issues.
 The issues being redeemed are:
 Forty Year 9-5/8 percent debentures due March 1, 2019 in
 aggregate principal amount of $250 million issued by South
 Central Bell Telephone Company ("South Central Bell"). The
 redemption price will be 105.55 percent of the principal
 amount plus accrued interest to the redemption date. The
 name and address of the paying agent is: United States Trust
 Company of New York, 65 Beaver St., New York NY 10005; and
 Forty Year 8-1/4 percent debentures due Aug. 1, 2013 in
 aggregate principal amount of $200 million issued by South
 Central Bell Telephone Company ("South Central Bell"). The
 redemption price will be 103.56 percent of the principal
 amount plus accrued interest to the redemption date. The
 name and address of the paying agent is: Premier Bank,
 National Association, Premier Centre-North Tower, 15th Floor,
 451 Florida St., Baton Rouge, LA 70801.
