BELLSOUTH INTRODUCES INTERNATIONAL CALLING PLAN.

BellSouth (NYSE:BLS) has introduced International Advantage At Home Plan, a new international long distance calling plan with aggressive rates to all cities in more than 220 countries, including $0.10 per minute to Mexico (any region), $0.05 per minute to Canada and $0.28 per minute to India. BellSouth has listened to its customers and is answering by reducing rates to countries customers call the most. Currently, about 20 percent of BellSouth Long Distance residential customers subscribe to one of its international long distance calling plans.

With the BellSouth International Advantage At Home plan, residential customers can enjoy low rates, which are flat rates any time of day or night, seven days a week. Customers who sign up through December, can take advantage of additional savings under a special holiday promotion in which the monthly recurring charge of $2.95 will be waived through December 31, 2003.

"Customers want simple, easy-to-understand and unrestricted calling plans that offer real savings on international calling," said Rex Adams, president of BellSouth Long Distance Services. "With the BellSouth International Advantage At Home Plan, consumers can enjoy low rates with unparalleled customer service and call quality standards."

Depending on how many calls or minutes of international long distance a customer uses, there is a BellSouth calling plan for their lifestyle. These international plans are available with varying per minute rates per country (listed on http://www.bellsouth.com/longdistance), based on plan choice. (Per minute rates for the new plan will only be available online at a later date).

- Fixed Rate Global Plan -- $3.00 monthly recurring charge, or $1.00 if purchased in addition to a domestic calling plan.

- International Savings 20 -- No monthly recurring charge. Billed usage only with a $20 monthly commitment. Customers receive a $10 Wal-Mart Shopping Card quarterly while on the plan.

- International Savings 40 -- No monthly recurring charge. Billed usage only with a $40 monthly commitment. Customers receive a $20 Wal-Mart Shopping Card quarterly while on the plan.

When making calls away from home, all BellSouth Long Distance customers can request a BellSouth Global Calling Card and the card will be mailed and set up on their account at no cost. The calling card is not part of an international plan, but offers customers a competitive rate of $.35 per minute for automated calls placed within the U.S. using 800-BELLSOUTH. Rates for calls to and from international locations vary by country. There is no monthly recurring fee or minimum usage charge.

The international plans are part of the long distance services offered in the company's popular BellSouth Answers bundles, which offer local calling plans with long distance, Internet and/or wireless services -- all on one bill. Consumers can choose the bundle of services they need, which offer a combined savings of up to $350 a year, depending on the services selected.

In 2002, BellSouth became the first regional Bell operating company to offer long distance in its entire territory, and provide solutions for both consumers and businesses. BellSouth reported in its second quarter earnings that the company was providing long distance service to more than 2.8 million residential and business customers in its nine-state service territory.
