BELLSOUTH ENTERS AGREEMENTS WITH TWO SOUTHEAST BUSINESS PARK DEVELOPMENTS

ATLANTA, July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Two Southeast region business park developments have become the most recent participants in BellSouth's FirstPark(R) services program, a combination of advanced telecommunications technologies, planning resources, and customer service support for office and research park developments.
The FirstPark services agreements were signed recently by New World Partners, Ltd., for Beacon Centre, a Codina Bush Group joint venture near Miami, and by the Ballard Companies and W.S. Newell, Inc. for the Alabama TechnaCenter, a mixed-use project under development in Montgomery, Ala.
Through the FirstPark(R) services program, Beacon Centre and Alabama TechnaCenter developers can offer tenants access to advanced telecommunications technologies, long-range communications planning service and personalized communications consulting and service support.
"One of the keys to attracting clients to an upscale business park is the availability of modern telecommunications services," said Rod Odom, vice president-marketing for BellSouth Telecommunications.
"Many economic development managers and real estate developers now recognize that the availability of state-of-the-art communications technologies is an important consideration of their clients in site selection, and are making communications a major element in their property offerings.
"FirstPark services represents a comprehensive planning approach to the use of telecommunications technology, as well as personalized service support for each development. Now, clients will enjoy the benefits of having access to the latest digital and fiber-optic technologies that will help them keep pace with current and future demands of a highly technical business environment," Odom said.
Beacon Centre, located one mile west of Miami International Airport, is rapidly gaining distinction as a center for international trade. Currently at 60 percent buildout, Beacon Centre offers office, retail, "flex" and warehouse space over a 205-acre site situated near the Florida Turnpike.
The hub of this South Florida corporate development is a retail convenience center that features a variety of business services. The center also contains a medical outpatient facility which offers occupational and physical therapy and corporate wellness programs.
As a research park development, the Alabama TechnaCenter will be a blend of private enterprise, government agencies, defense contractors and university resources -- all with a high-technology focus. The development parallels a commitment by Montgomery economic leaders to transform the area into a nationally recognized center for software engineering excellence.
The TechnaCenter's first tenant was the Alabama Institute for Advanced Information Systems, a training, education, development and research firm that markets its services to the software engineering community. Other tenants include GTE Government Systems and the Alabama Rural Electric Association.
More than 200 acres of the Alabama TechnaCenter development are zoned for business, with the remaining acreage reserved for residential and retail development. An adjacent golf and community club is also planned.
BellSouth Telecommunications, Inc., with headquarters in Atlanta, provides telecommunications services in the BellSouth (NYSE: BLS) region. BellSouth Telecommunications does business as Southern Bell in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida, and as South Central Bell in Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. These companies serve more than 18.7 million local telephone lines and provide local exchange and intraLATA long distance service over one of the most modern telecommunications networks in the world.
