BELLSOUTH ENTERPRISES NAMES WILLIAMS TO HEAD INFORMATION SERVICES
ATLANTA, Feb. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- BellSouth Enterprises, Inc. announced today it has appointed W.H. "Bill" Williams as executive director-information services effective March 1.
In his new position, Williams will coordinate the development and implementation of information services-related activities throughout BellSouth Corporation (NYSE: BLS). He will report to H.C. Henry Jr., executive vice president, international, marketing and business development.
Henry broadly outlined BellSouth's strategy for the deployment of information services: "Information services are enhancements to and natural evolutionary extensions of our core communications businesses," he said. "We plan to offer some exciting new products and services to our customers, and this organization will enable us to respond effectively to the rapid developments taking place in information technology and the needs of the marketplace."
Williams said that BellSouth intends to launch several market trials of these new services within the next several months. "With these trials, we can begin the process of sorting out what new services make sense for our customers, find out how they are going to react and fashion some new services that really meet the genuine needs in their lives," he said.
Reporting to Williams will be Douglas A. Bulleit, president - BellSouth Advanced Networks (BSAN); R.R. "Dick" Holzapfel, assistance vice president - information services, and the yet-to-be-named head of an enhanced messaging operation. Jack Roth, president - BellSouth Information Networks (BIN), Phil Guy, president - Scientific Software, Inc. (SSI), and Scott Schaeffer, vice president and general manager of BellSouth's Intelligent Network Systems Integration (INSI) division, will report to Bulleit. BSAN, BIN, INSI and SSI comprise BellSouth Enterprises' Advanced Network Group of companies that provide innovative and enhanced customer applications.
Williams has been president of BellSouth Information Systems since 1991. A 20-year veteran of the Bell system, Williams has extensive experience in network utilization and development. He is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology and has an MBA from Georgia State University.
Robert G. Haley, a vice president at BellSouth International, will replace Williams as president of BellSouth Information Systems. BIS will continue to report to William R. Delk, vice president - corporate affairs. Haley was formerly assistant vice president - systems planning at BellSouth Services and director-corporate planning at Southern Bell.
