BELL ATLANTIC NAMES SZYGENDA INFORMATION SYSTEMS VICE PRESIDENT

 ARLINGTON, Va., June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Ralph J. Szygenda will join Bell Atlantic Corporation (NYSE: BEL) as vice president-information systems and chief information officer effective June 28.
 Szygenda now is vice president-information systems and services and chief information officer at Texas Instruments Corporation, Dallas. He manages worldwide telecommunications, computing and management information systems and the design and manufacturing of automation systems.
 At Bell Atlantic, Szygenda will work to finalize plans for the implementation of Systems 2000, the company's strategic initiative to upgrade and integrate its operations support systems. The changes are necessary to enable Bell Atlantic to compete more effectively by providing improved customer service and network reliability and to achieve significant cost reductions.
 "Ralph has a proven track record in planning and implementing state- of-the-art information systems that provide competitive advantage in the marketplace," said John Gamba, president-Bell Atlantic Network Services, Inc. "He is recognized as an industry leader in information systems technology as well as business process re-engineering. He'll be an invaluable leader of our team."
 Szygenda, 44, completed both his graduate and post-graduate studies at the University of Texas and has a master of science degree in electrical engineering. He and his family will relocate to the Washington, D.C., area.
