BELL ATLANTIC MOBILE INTRODUCES LOW COST RENTAL PLAN FOR BUSINESSES
BEDMINSTER, N.J., Dec. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Bell Atlantic Mobile Systems has launched a low cost, flexible equipment rental plan to make cellular phones more affordable for small- to medium-size businesses and to facilitate conversion to digital equipment in the future.
Bell Atlantic Mobile designed the plan to help businesses avoid a large capital commitment to equipment, according to Benjamin L. Scott, vice president-marketing and sales, who said the monthly rental rate is $8.95 per phone.
"Smaller firms can now take advantage of cellular's benefits, yet have predictable, manageable equipment charges," Scott explained. "More importantly, they will be able to convert easily to the most advanced equipment as we integrate digital systems."
Scott emphasized that even though digital equipment will enhance future cellular performance overall, Bell Atlantic Mobile will continue to provide the highest quality service to all customers who retain analog phones.
Bell Atlantic Mobile's rental plan is available to businesses which need five or more cellular phones. The monthly rental rate for each CTX 3200 phone is $8.95.
The CTX 3200 provides many special features, including data capability so a lap-top computer or fax machine can be used with this phone. Bell Atlantic Mobile will extend the manufacturer's limited warranty and provide regular maintenance and repairs as well as free antenna replacement throughout the rental term. Parts not normally covered by the manufacturer's limited warranty are covered throughout the rental agreement.
Customers can enroll in the rental program at any Bell Atlantic Mobile Phone Center. New customers must sign up for at least five phones; existing customers must be signing up for a number that will bring them to a total of at least five phones.
Customers pay an installation fee and monthly rental and cellular service charges. The rental program is available throughout Bell Atlantic Mobile's region except to customers who reside in New York or request a New York exchange.
"We feel this plan provides businesses a new avenue to take advantage of cellular," Scott concluded. "They can have all the benefits of high quality service and equipment, along with the ease of converting to digital, without a major capital expenditure up front."
Bell Atlantic Mobile Systems provides cellular service and equipment in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. It is a subsidiary of Philadelphia-based Bell Atlantic Corporation (NYSE: BEL), which in September 1991 announced an agreement to acquire the cellular telephone and certain other operations of Metro Mobile CTS, Inc. operating in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, North and South Carolina, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.
