BELL ATLANTIC LAUNCHES MESSAGE BOARD SERVICE

BELL ATLANTIC LAUNCHES MESSAGE BOARD SERVICE
ARLINGTON, Va., Dec. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The ability to

communicate important information from schools to parents, banks to customers and department stores to shoppers entered new realms of possibilities today with the introduction of Bell Atlantic Message Board Service.
Message Board Service allows businesses, schools and government agencies, for instance, to create and tailor voice messages that provide complete, consistent and current information to callers. Subscribers to Message Board Service, which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, can change and update their voice messages over a touch tone-equipped telephone. Callers to a Message Board Service number, depending on the available service options, can both listen to and leave messages.
"There are tremendous creative possibilities built into this service," said John W. Seazholtz, Bell Atlantic's vice president for information and technology services. "Message Board Service is providing a necessary information link between people and the communities in which they live and work, and for businesses and communities in which they operate.
"Message Board Service provides the chance for people to connect with information that matters to them without having to write letters and wait for a response, read lots of newspapers, or call countless numbers."
It is the Message Board Service subscriber, Seazholtz said, that determines the size or complexity of announcements contained in the service mailbox. A business can choose to simply record one general message for all callers to hear, or it can create an interactive voice messaging application that provides various levels of information and opportunities for callers to leave recorded messages.
A school, for instance, could record a general message alerting callers to the dates of important PTA meetings, committee hearings and sporting events. In addition the message could direct callers how to retrieve information specific to class homework assignments or leave a message for a particular teacher or administrator.
Subscribers to Bell Atlantic Message Board Service will be able to provide up-to-date product information and prices, advertised specials or sales, weekend and weekday movie schedules, hours of operation and directions to the store.
Bell Atlantic Message Board Service, which is a member of the growing family of Bell Atlantic voice messaging services, is distinguished by the fact that subscribers need only a touch tone phone to create recorded messages. All the equipment necessary to bring Message Board Service to subscribers and callers alike is located within Bell Atlantic's Intelligent network. All maintenance is carried out on telephone company premises.
"Message Board Service is one more example of Bell Atlantic's commitment to bring products and services to the market that are designed to make people's lives simpler while improving access to the wealth of useful information available today," said Seazholtz.
Bell Atlantic Message Board Service is available in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. It will be available in the District of Columbia in 1992.
Bell Atlantic Corporation (NYSE: BEL) is based in Philadelphia and is the parent company of New Jersey Bell, Bell of Pennsylvania, Diamond State Telephone (Delaware), and the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone companies of Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington.
