 APPOINTS RICHARD W. TURNER PRESIDENT
SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- BEI Electronics Inc. (NASDAQ: BEII), a San Francisco-based diversified technology company, today announced that it has formed a Medical Systems Company subsidiary and appointed Richard W. Turner, who has over 20 years of health care experience, its president and chief executive officer.
In making the announcement, Charles Crocker, BEI chairman, stated that "the establishment of BEI Medical Systems Company is a further step in the company's strategy to diversify its business base into high growth commercial markets. BEI has chosen to focus on the medical market because we believe BEI's technologies can contribute substantially to medical/surgical product offerings.
"Richard Turner's wealth of knowledge and experience in health care and highly successful record in the management of a number of medical companies provides BEI with the foundation to develop the Medical Systems Company into a major future contributor to the continued profitable growth of BEI Electronics," Crocker said. BEI currently provides motion control products, specialized motors and sensors that are utilized in various medical applications. In addition, the aerospace technologies from BEI's other subsidiaries will enable the Medical Systems Company to offer improved devices for cost effective medical/surgical care, Crocker noted.
Turner, who will be located on an interim basis at BEI's corporate headquarters in San Francisco, will be responsible for adapting BEI's core technologies to the medical/surgical market. "His efforts will also include the identification of appropriate acquisitions and innovative procedures to enhance BEI's strategic growth objectives," Crocker added. In his new position he will report to Peter G. Paraskos, BEI president and chief executive officer.
Turner comes to BEI from The Cooper Companies Inc. where he was president of its Healthcare Group. He joined Cooper in 1986 and served in a number of executive positions including president of CooperVision Inc., president of Cooper Surgical Inc. and president of Cooper LaserSonics Inc. From 1983 to 1986 he was president and chief executive officer of Pancretec Inc. Prior to that, he held various executive posts in the medical industry.
He holds a master of business administration degree from Pepperdine University and a bachelor of science degree in psychology from Old Dominion University. Turner has served as a member of the Health Industry Manufacturers Association.
