BEEP! TIME TO TAKE YOUR MEDICINE!
BEEP! TIME TO TAKE YOUR MEDICINE! DENVER, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The next time the person next to you
"beeps," it may not be a call from the office. It could be a friendly reminder that its medicine-taking time.
And there's good reason for it. According to the Public Health Service, 300,000 Americans are hospitalized each year for incorrect medicine use, and 125,000 die from medicine-related mistakes, reactions, or simply forgetting to take their medicine as directed. Denver-based PolyMedica Healthcare Inc., has introduced Medi-Aid ADVISRx, an easy-to-use, over-the-counter, inexpensive, 120-day- guarantee, reminder that beeps and flashes at regular intervals to remind the user to take medicine on schedule. Unlike other electronic reminder devices that require difficult, individual programming, ADVISRx comes in five color-coded models with pre-set intervals. You buy the one that matches your prescription schedule, such as three-times-a-day. When the first pill of the day is taken, the user pulls out a small tab on top of the device, activating it for the rest of the day. Then, at pre-programmed times, the device beeps and flashes a reminder until a button is pressed. If the button is not pressed, the device will continue a one-minute beep, five-minute-rest cycle four times before automatically shutting down for the next cycle. If a mistake is made, the device can easily be reset by simply re-inserting the tab. Available in most food and drug chain pharmacies, ADVISRx's five different color models identify their pre-programmed time sequence -- once a day, twice a day, three times a day (eight hours apart), three time a day (five hours apart) and four times a day. The device is pocket size or can be attached to the top of the prescription vial, pill box, refrigerator door or desk top with its self-adhering foam tape. Suggested retail price is under $5. According to Bob Zappa, president, PolyMedica Healthcare, "We believe ADVISRx is a major breakthrough because of its ease-of-use and very low cost. The real benefit is that patients will receive maximum benefit from the medicine that has been prescribed." Each box clearly displays the pre-programmed time interval in familiar terms, enabling the patient to understand and use the ADVISRx after reading just the box. Detailed instructions inside provide additional information on intervals and how to use the product.
