BEEB TO SCREEN CHELSEA FINAL.

THE BBC has won exclusive rights to screen the European Cup-Winners' Cup final between Chelsea and Stuttgart next month.

Channel 5 have followed Gianluca Vialli's side since the first round of the tournament, but the BBC have moved quickly to secure exclusive screening of the Stockholm final on May 13.

The decision gives the BBC a hat-trick of European finals after they also gained the rights to show the UEFA and European Super Cup finals.

Jonathan Martin, controller of BBC sport, said: "We are delighted to be showing Chelsea's big night in Europe.

"We hope this will be a great night for English football and anticipate one of the biggest television football audiences of the year."

Channel 5 also lost the rights to show Aston Villa's UEFA Cup campaign earlier this year - again to the BBC.

Channel 5 will show exclusively live three of England's away games in the 2000 European Championship qualifiers.
