BECOMING TRUE BRITS THERE must be a Polish word for "sickie", but if there isn't they'll have to invent one because the English disease is obviously catching.

New research shows that migrants from eastern Europe do work harder than the natives - for two to five years. And then they slack off, showing the same rates of absenteeism and sick leave.

This is heartening news. They're learning to be proper Brits. Next thing, they'll be taking up darts and doms.

In fact, that would be no bad thing if it got them into our working men's clubs, too many of which are going to the wall.
