BECHTEL WINS SECOND PIPELINE PROJECT IN THAILAND

SAN FRANCISCO, April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Bechtel International Inc. has signed a contract with the Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTT) for a $700-million natural gas parallel pipeline project. It is the second major submarine gas pipeline job awarded to Bechtel by PTT within the last two years.
Bechtel's scope includes engineering, preparation of procurement and construction bid packages and management of construction.
The project consists of 425 kilometers (264 miles) of 36-inch diameter submarine pipeline, 170 kilometers (105 miles) of 28-inch diameter onshore pipeline, onshore and offshore compression facilities, and an onshore receiving terminal.
"The project will double PTT's capacity to transport natural gas from the Gulf of Thailand to the Bangkok and eastern industrial seaboard areas," says Michael L. Thiele, Houston-based senior vice president and manager of Bechtel's pipeline operations.
More than one billion standard cubic feet of gas per day will be transported through the new system, which is scheduled to be completed in March 1996.
The earlier project, awarded to Bechtel in 1991, is scheduled for completion in October this year, two months ahead of schedule.
Bechtel Corp. is a leading international engineering, construction, management and environmental operation. Headquarters for its pipeline and industrial operations are in Houston. Other major pipeline offices are in San Francisco and London.
