BEAZER'S EASTERN U.S. CONSTRUCTION AND AGGREGATES OPERATIONS RESTRUCTURED

NEW YORK, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Hanson Industries, the U.S. arm of Hanson PLC (NYSE: HAN), announced today that Beazer's eastern U.S. operations will be consolidated and restructured into two entities, primarily along the lines of their two major businesses, construction and aggregates.
A new entity, called Spectrum Construction Group, will include most of Beazer's construction and paving activities in the eastern states. Spectrum will be among the top 50 construction companies in the United States, with annual revenues of approximately $500 million and the capability to work throughout the United States. David Eastwood has been appointed president and CEO of Spectrum, and William Hemingway has been named CFO. Both held similar positions with Beazer's Tidewater division.
Spectrum will be headquartered in Virginia Beach, Va.
Benchmark Materials Company will consolidate all aggregate operations, including some asphalt paving where fully integrated with aggregates. Benchmark, with revenues of $325 million, will supply about 50 million tons of aggregates, 3 million tons of asphalt, and related services to the construction, railroad and agricultural industries. Its market will range from the Midwest to the Southeast. Philip Mickelson will be president and CEO and Gary Skidmore will be CFO. Both come from the current Benchmark Materials division. Frederick C. Moore, from Beazer's General Materials and Construction division, which will be absorbed into both new entities, will assume the position of chairman of Benchmark in a non-executive role.
Benchmark Materials will be headquartered in Raleigh, N.C.
On the local level, both Spectrum Construction and Benchmark Materials will continue to do business under the historical names of their subsidiaries and affiliates.
Both company presidents will report to John Wimberly, chairman and CEO of Beazer USA. Mr. Wimberly said: "This move will focus management and streamline Beazer's business on the East Coast. It will also align our operations to better fit the markets they serve."
