BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD LEAD '94 CELEBRITY CALENDAR SALES ... EH-EH-EH, COOL

NEW YORK, Dec. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- It looks like MTV's animated bad boys will be hanging around for at least another year. According to Waldenbooks, the nation's largest book seller which also sells millions of calendars each year, the Beavis and Butt-Head calendar leads its sales among 1994 TV celebrity calendars. Splashed across the calendar pages are the suburban misfits' juvenile commentary on topics such as TV shows, rock stars, the opposite sex and the art of air guitar.
"We are surprised how quickly the Beavis and Butt-Head calendar is selling. It's even outselling the Regis and Kathie Lee calendar," said Steven Morvay, Waldenbooks' Senior Vice President of Marketing. "There's a very good chance the Beavis and Butt-Head calendar will be a rare find in stores by year's end,"
The beady-eyed duo is holding steady against second place Jerry Seinfeld, which begs the question, "who are these people who buy these calendars?"
According to Morvay, purchasers of celebrity calendars pretty much match the audience demographics of the television program in which the celebrity is featured. "Beavis and Butt-Head, for instance, are very popular among young people -- the MTV crowd," said Morvay. "You can expect to see the popular characters adorning dormitory and bedroom walls next year."
Waldenbooks top selling celebrity calendars for 1994(A):
 Beavis and Butt-Head
 Jerry Seinfeld
 Tim Allen (ABC's "Home Improvement")
Antonio Sabato Jr. (ABC's "General Hospital")
 Ren & Stimpy (Nickelodeon)
 Regis & Kathie Lee
 The Simpsons
 Jay Leno
 Thomas the Tank Engine (PBS)
Beavis and Butt-Head calendar sales are strongest in the South Central United States, Texas, Florida, the Southwest and Western United States. Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, including New England, and Ohio Valley consumers show a stronger affinity for Regis and Kathie Lee and Seinfeld over the two punksters. Consumers in California and the Northwest United States have a special affection for toons, with Beavis and Butt-Head, Ren & Stimpy and The Simpsons calendars the top three sellers at Waldenbooks.
Of the more than 400 different calendar titles (in all formats) that Waldenbooks' 1,200 stores carry, celebrity calendars are some of the most popular but are continuously out-sold by non-celebrity calendars which include such perennial favorites as The Far Side, Sports Illustrated swimsuit, folk art, Winslow Adams nature and those lovable cats.
 (A) Figures are compiled by Waldenbooks sales on a day-by-day basis nationwide.
