BEAUTY SPOT: Twinkle like little Star.

The new arrival in our family is perfectly suited to her name, Star. After many requests from her mum Lisa, I thought it my duty as a doting uncle to dedicate this week's column to them both. After all, they did help me test the best products for mums and babies.

Exclusive to John Lewis, Clarins' Maternity Gift Set is filled with must-haves for mums and a cute treat for the tots. It contains their new Stretch Mark Control Cream, other extras and a cute glove puppet, all wrapped up in a handy toiletry bag. A great gift for new mums or mums-to-be, priced pounds 50.

I always remember my mum saying: "Her at the end of the street is expecting." Expecting what, I always wondered. Now I know this was Ayrshire for pregnant. Anyway, all expecting mums will love Neal's Yard Mothers Bath Oil. It's safe to use during pregnancy and gives a really relaxing soak. Priced pounds 12 from Neal's Yard stores.

Everyone loves the smell of babies, minus the vomit of course. Philosophy's Baby Grace is a scent for women who want to smell like a baby. It's clean, fresh and powdery and takes you back to when life was much simpler. A nice idea for a new mum. From Space NK and John Lewis, pounds 32.

Origins' A Perfect World is a buttery, rich, body cream with white tea that helps to prevent stretch marks. It's also great for treating dry and flaky skin. The sweet and fruity smell also gets the thumbs up. From Frasers and John Lewis, pounds 25.

When bathing before bedtime, use Organic Lavender Bubble Bath. It contains chamomile, rosehips and bergamot, which release a relaxing scent that will help little ones rest better. From John Lewis, pounds 5.95.
