BEAUMONT HOSPITAL TO PARTICIPATE IN COMMUNITY CARE PARTNERSHIP LAUNCHED BY BLUES, HENRY FORD AND MERCY

DETROIT, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan and the Mercy Henry Ford Managed Care Network, a joint venture of Henry Ford Health System and Mercy Health Services, have announced that William Beaumont Hospital has become a participating provider in the new, regional health care benefit delivery arrangement called a "community care partnership" that was launched last February.
William Beaumont Hospital operates a 929-bed teaching, research and referral center in Royal Oak, Mich., and a 189-bed acute care facility in Troy, Mich. Eighty-seven medical specialties are represented including cardiology, oncology, ophthalmology, obstetrics, geriatrics, emergency medicine, orthopedics, pediatrics, preventive and nutritional medicine.
Called a "community care partnership," the arrangement is built on a contract between the Blues and its health maintenance organization (HMO) subsidiary Blue Care Network (BCN) of Southeast Michigan. In turn, BCN has contracted with Beaumont as well as the Mercy Henry Ford Managed Care Network and Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, Mich., to provide health care services.
The unique alliance will offer managed care products with premium rate increases that are below current health care cost trends to group customers in Southeast Michigan. The Blue Choice point of service product is being marketed under the arrangement to group customers with more than 100 employees.
"Our participation in this new health insurance program will allow continuing access for the thousands of Blues subscribers who want to come to Beaumont for their health care," explained Michael C. Killian, Beaumont's director of marketing. Beaumont and its medical staff formed a Physician and Hospital Organization (PHO), which agreed to participate in the new Blues plan.
The community care partnership arrangement is in addition to existing preferred provider organization (PPO) and health maintenance organization (HMO) programs offered by the Blues and Blue Care Network of Southeast Michigan, Beaumont, Henry Ford, Mercy and Botsford.
