BEARINGS, INC. ACQUIRES OPERATIONS OF BALDWIN RUBBER INDUSTRIES

 CLEVELAND, July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Bearings, Inc. (BI) (NYSE: BER) announced today the acquisition of the operations of Baldwin Rubber Industries, Monmouth Junction, N.J., a division of Starcan, Inc. Baldwin is a more than 60-year-old distributor of lightweight belts and other rubber products with a national customer base.
 The employees of Baldwin Rubber Industries will join BI's 3,900 employees in more than 335 operating locations including branches, distribution centers and shop locations.
 Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The transaction is not considered material to the operations.
 Based in Cleveland, Bearings, Inc. is the nation's leading independent distributor of replacement components for industrial maintenance and repair, including a full line of rubber products and related support services.
 The acquisition represents continued growth for the Bearings, Inc. Rubber Products unit as it continues to extend its operations east of the Mississippi and enhance rubber capabilities in the Northeast. According to Bearings, Inc. Rubber Products Marketing Director Jim Grubb, "Baldwin Rubber Industries offers Bearings, Inc. four very critical components: loyal customers, a well trained staff, state-of- the-art fabricating equipment and an extensive inventory of leading brand names."
 Commenting on the acquisition, Bearings, Inc. President Jack Robinson noted that BI's primary commitment is always to its valued customers. "We extend a warm welcome to Baldwin Rubber Industries' employees and customers," he said, "and we promise the same high level of service to which they are accustomed. At Bearings, Inc., total quality service is of prime importance."
