BDM FEDERAL EXPANDS SUPPORT TO AIR FORCE DESIGN ENGINEERING PROGRAM, WINS $20 MILLION IN SUBCONTRACT AWARDS

MCLEAN, Va., Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- BDM Federal, Inc. (BDM) announced the award of two major subcontracts, potentially worth $20 million, which substantially expand its support to the U.S. Air Force Design Engineering Program (DEP), according to BDM President and Chief Executive Officer Philip A. Odeen.
Both awards are for five-year, task order contracts with the San Antonio Air Logistics Center (ALC) at Kelly Air Force Base, Texas. These subcontracts fall under the direction of two prime contractors: Southwest Research, Inc., and Sunset Resources, Inc.
BDM will provide independent design engineering to improve the reliability and maintainability of fielded weapons systems, related support equipment and processes. Work will encompass design efforts, development of technical data packages, prototype development, independent verification and validation and testing. "Initially, BDM will focus on identifying supportability problems of existing systems," explained Dr. James M. Walton, senior vice president and general manager for BDM's Defense Engineering Business Unit. "We will also design, develop, test and provide documentation for hardware and software modifications and provide complete logistics support for all five ALCs within the Air Force Materiel Command."
The San Antonio program marks the second DEP contract effort for BDM. In 1990, the company won a prime contract at Ogden, Utah, ALC and has been helping to develop and apply new technologies to improve the reliability and maintainability of existing weapons systems, such as the F-16, and improve the supportability of software and hardware for ballistic missiles. Through the Ogden ALC contract, the company has also extended its support to the Sacramento ALC in the area of advanced composites repair and to the Oklahoma City ALC in electromagnetic pulse testing.
BDM Federal, Inc., headquartered in McLean (metropolitan Washington) provides scientific, engineering, technical and other expert services to public sector clients in national defense, transportation, communications, energy, environment, logistics, space, information systems, advanced technology, systems integration, public policy and other areas of federal activity.
