BD70,000 raised for charity.

MORE than BD70,000 has been raised through a major charity golf tournament that took place over the weekend.

The three-day American Mission Hospital (AMH) Island Classic Charity Golf Tournament was held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad and concluded with a gala dinner.

The donations raised were BD30,000 in cash while BD45,000 were raised in in-kind donations.

The tournament raised funds for AMH's community outreach programmes and was held at His Majesty's private golf course in Safriya, while the gala dinner was held at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel Residence and Spa and was attended by US Ambassador Justin Siberell and German Ambassador Kai Boeckmann.

The dinner was also attended by the tournament winners, sponsors, and some AMH board members. Organisations that supported the 21st edition of the event were also honoured during the gala dinner.

"We have come together to recognise the sponsors who play an important role in making this event possible," said AMH chief medical officer Dr George Cheriyan.

"All our hard work and effort would not amount to anything without the support of our king and benefactors."

Al Hawaj 1 claimed the title in the Championship Flight (Handicap average of less than 6.0), while the Premier Flight was bagged by AMH Riffa 1 (handicap average of 6.0 or more).
