MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 10, 2001

BCE Emergis Inc. (TSE: IFM) announced today that Celent Communications, a U.S. financial and technology research service headquartered in Boston, MA, and dedicated to consulting and research on e-commerce for the financial services industry, ranked BCE Emergis at the top of its list in a recent study of business to business (B2B) electronic bill presentment and payment vendors (EBPP). The 42-page study, "Ranking the Vendors of B2B EBPP Solutions," offers an in-depth look at major providers in the B2B EBPP market, critiquing and comparing vendor solutions based on criteria such as features, experience, cost and customer service.

"We are thrilled to have Celent's e-financial researchers recognize the superiority of Emergis(TM) e-Invoicing, our electronic bill presentment and payment enabling technology," said Alan Neely, Chief Marketing Officer, BCE Emergis. "Our clients use this system for production processing in sophisticated environments, so we can thank them for driving many of the features that have led to this validation of our leadership position. Celent's analysis also points to the strength and depth of Emergis as an e-commerce business partner, with unparalleled offerings in the areas of security and payment technology that are particularly crucial to financial institutions."

As explained by Ariana-Michele Moore, co-author of the report: "The B2B EBPP market has exploded over the past year, offering a huge potential for cost savings but making it confusing for businesses to decipher which e-financial provider best suits their needs. Our report which includes analysis of the Avolent, BillingZone, Bottomline Technologies, edocs, iPlanet and Pitney Bowes offerings clearly ranks BCE Emergis as the top North American B2B EBPP solution vendor for businesses based on feature and service offerings."

In the report, Celent also predicts that annual spending on B2B EBPP solutions will increase from US$27 million in 2000 to over US$100 million in 2005. Furthermore, the report asserts that financial institutions have the potential to play a large role in the B2B EBPP market, due to their positioning between payments infrastructure and management solutions.
