BCBSM PRESIDENT/CEO TO DISCUSS HEALTH CARE DILEMMA
AT ECONOMIC CLUB OF GRAND RAPIDS GATHERING
Cost, quality and access. Most everyone agrees these are the key issues to be addressed in health care today. Can we lower costs and increase access by tinkering with our current health care delivery system, or must we take a look at broader societal issues to achieve the goals of managed costs, increased quality and access for all?
The Economic Club of Grand Rapids, the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) will join forces Monday, Oct. 19, to examine an issue that has taken center stage in this year's national political campaign.
Richard E. Whitmer, president and chief executive officer of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan, will address the Economic Club of Grand Rapids at noon Monday, Oct. 19, in the Pantlind Ballroom of the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel.
The health care dilemma will be further examined later that evening at 10 on WGVU-TV (Ch. 35) and WGVK-TV (Ch. 52) in the national Public Broadcasting System premiere of "Healthcare Beyond Tomorrow," featuring Harvard law professor Arthur Miller and a panel of state and national experts in the fields of business, labor and medicine.
"Healthcare Beyond Tomorrow" was underwritten by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan. Its premiere showing will be sponsored by the Economic Club of Grand Rapids and the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce.
Whitmer will be available to the media for interviews regarding the program and his speech to the Economic Club of Grand Rapids at 11:40 a.m. in the Pantlind Ballroom of the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel.
