BAYBANK BRINGS BOBBY ORR TO THE ICE
SPONSORS SKATING ON THE BOSTON COMMON FOR THE BOSTON FESTIVAL
BOSTON, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Hockey legend and BayBank spokesman Bobby Orr will make a special appearance at the opening of public skating on the Boston Common, Saturday, Feb. 15, to kick off a month of activities for the second annual Boston Festival. BayBank, one of New England's leading banking organizations, will sponsor Orr's appearance and a weekend of skating on an all-weather rink constructed especially for the Festival.
"BayBank is proud to sponsor this ice skating event with host Bobby Orr," says Carole L. O'Connor, senior vice president of advertising for BayBank. "It's a wonderful way to celebrate winter in the city, and we are pleased to once again demonstrate BayBank's commitment to the community. We hope that people of all ages will come out and lace up their skates in support of the festival."
Orr, who made his hockey debut in 1966 at age 18, is a favorite Boston sports figure and has a long list of hockey achievements. In addition to revolutionizing the sport with his skating, stick-handling and scoring abilities, Orr is most noted for redefining the position of defenseman due to his ability to play a powerful offensive game. In addition, he led the Boston Bruins to the NHL's Stanley Cup Championship in 1970 and 1972. Since retiring from professional hockey in 1978, Orr has been active in many on- and off-ice activities. Since 1984, he has served as corporate spokesperson for BayBanks, Inc. and is currently a member of the BayBank west suburban regional board of directors.
Orr wil be available to sign autographs on Saturday, Feb. 15, from 12 to 2 p.m. Skating will begin at 10 a.m. and continue throughout the day. As part of Saturday's festivities, Baybank will provide free hot chocolate.
The skating rink which is located at Frog Pond on the Beacon Street side of the Boston Common, will also be open to the public on Feb. 16, 22, 23, 29 and March 1, 7, 8, 14, 15 as part of Boston Festival activities.
A special $10 Boston Festival button entitles the wearer to admission to the skating rink, and also to all festival events, special sales, discounts and promotions from Feb. 14 through March 15; admission is free for children under 12. Buttons can be purchased at the skating rink and various locations throughout Boston.
