 BAXTER TO BREAK GROUND FOR NEW SUPER DISTRIBUTION CENTER;
 NEW YORK GOV. CUOMO TO PARTICIPATE IN JUNE 2 CEREMONY
 DEERFIELD, Ill., June 1 -- The Distribution Services Division of Baxter Healthcare Corp. will celebrate the groundbreaking of its new 595,000-square-foot New York Distribution Center on Tuesday, June 2, at 1 p.m. The celebration will be held at the 117-acre building site on Neelytown Road between Montgomery and Hamptonburgh, in Orange County, N.Y.
 New York Gov. Mario Cuomo will join Lester B. Knight, Baxter's executive vice president of hospital business, and Henry Autry, president of the Distribution Services Division, in celebrating the groundbreaking and Baxter's commitment to serving the healthcare needs of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
 When completed in the fourth quarter of 1993, the $83 million facility will warehouse more than 15,000 individual healthcare products. It will ship up to 37,000 cases per day to Baxter customer hospitals throughout the tri-state area. The center's four miles of conveyors will be controlled by a sophisticated computerized operating management system. The system allows customers to have a high degree of control over how their orders are shipped and delivered. This customization means increased efficiency inside the hospital, saving money that can be invested in revenue-generating operations.
 The facility will employ 350 workers and generate more than $7 million in net tax revenue for the local area over the next 10 years. Hudson Valley contractors and suppliers will receive at least $5 million worth of construction contracts.
 The new center is one element of "Network 2000," the Distribution Services Division's $400 million initiative to expand, consolidate and modernize its distribution facilities and operations nationwide.
 The groundbreaking will feature demonstrations of the center's technology and displays of the range of Baxter products to be distributed from the facility. Entertainment will be provided by the Newburgh Free Academy Strolling Strings.
