BAUSCH & LOMB TO INTRODUCE CONTACT LENS FOR DAILY THROW-AWAY

ROCHESTER, N.Y., March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Bausch & Lomb (NYSE: BOL), the world's leading manufacturer of contact lenses, announced today that it will introduce the first contact lens designed to be worn for a day, then thrown away.
Currently available disposable lenses are designed to be worn for a week or two, then discarded and replaced with a fresh pair.
"Advances in manufacturing technology, along with wide acceptance of the convenience and health benefits of more frequent lens replacement, have brought us to the point where we can offer a true disposable lens -- one that is worn once and discarded," said Harold O. Johnson, Bausch & Lomb senior corporate vice president and president of its Contact Lens Division. "We believe this type of disposable product will be of great value to patients who want the convenience and health benefits of simply replacing their lenses after every use," he said. Johnson noted that the company believes a lens designed to be discarded after each use will help alleviate concerns over current extended wear disposable lenses, which may be worn for up to seven days at a time.
The company said the new lenses will be distributed by Bausch & Lomb only through licensed eye care practitioners.
The new lens will be introduced as part of the company's well established SeeQuence line of lenses. Release of product is dependent on securing requisite approvals.
