BATTERY TECHNOLOGIES SELLS PRODUCTION FACILITY

TORONTO, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Battery Technologies Inc. (BTI) of Toronto, Canada, developer and licenser of the new low cost environmentally safe Rechargeable Alkaline Manganese (RAM) battery technology is pleased to report that it has sold it's pilot line production facility to one of it's U.S. licensees, Phoenix Energy Corp. of Buffalo, N.Y. The total package, consisting of processing, assembly and testing equipment will cost Phoenix US$535,000.
Phoenix expects to have production of AA RAM batteries underway during the second half of 1993. Phoenix's initial objective will be to produce RAM batteries and battery packs for the U.S. market place and to establish the RAM battery systems in the U.S. private label market. Phoenix anticipates that it will be in a position to purchase a full scale production facility later this year.
BTI is also pleased to report that Dr. Terry Williamson III has recently been named president and chief operating officer of Phoenix Energy Corp. Dr. Williamson's experience in the battery industry includes a lengthy tenure with Motorola (1976-1983) where he led development of all battery packs for the company's pagers, radios, and for the first hand-held portable cellular telephone. He later joined the Ovonic Battery Company (1983-1985) in Troy, Mich., as chief operating officer, overseeing the start-up of this high technology venture that recently received a major contract from a consortium involving the Big Three automakers for the continuing development of the electric vehicle battery.
According to Mr. Edward J. Rutkowski, chairman and CEO of Phoenix, the successful recruitment of Dr. Williamson sets the stage for Phoenix' commencement of full-scale operations in 1993. "It was imperative for Phoenix to have a battery person' heading up our manufacturing operations," he said, adding, "both Dr. Williamson's education and industry experience make him exceptionally qualified for the position. We are thrilled with the prospects of what Dr. Williamson brings to Phoenix."
