BASF announces plans to sell decorative paints business.
"The consultation process with the works councils has been started," said Andreas Fehren, managing director of Relius GmbH & Co. KG. "It is our clear objective to sell the Relius deco paint business near-term to another company. By selling we aim to avoid forced redundancies for operational reasons if possible."
Relius focuses on direct sales to painters and specialist dealers. In Germany and France, the company has about 30 distribution offices. Regionally, it serves mainly Germany and selected countries in Europe. In addition, the company markets deco paints through importers in selected countries in Western Europe. In The Netherlands, Relius manufactures and markets its Relius Fleurit and Relius Hoeka brand of products from its site in Deurne.
BASF's businesses that produce protective and marine coatings, general industry coatings, and coatings for wind energy facility rotor blades are explicitly not part of the planned divestiture. These activities will be further developed and globally expanded as part of BASF's Industrial Coatings Business. In addition, BASF's decorative paints businesses in South America and China will not be affected by the deal and will also be further expanded.
