BARR REINTRODUCES E.S.P.
POMONA, N.Y., May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Barr Laboratories, Inc. (AMEX: BRL) announced the reintroduction of all package sizes of its popular antibiotic, E.S.P.(TM) a generic equivalent to Ross Laboratories' Pediazole(R). Barr will begin shipping E.S.P. immediately. Barr Laboratories was the first generic manufacturer to introduce a product equivalent to Pediazole in 1988. On a full-year basis, E.S.P. will increase the company's current sales by approximately 30 percent. E.S.P. was one of 24 products temporarily suspended earlier this year by the Federal District Court in New Jersey. The court required completion of additional validation prior to reintroduction of the suspended products. Barr and the FDA agree that the additional studies completed for E.S.P. satisfy the requirements of the order. The company is preparing additional validation studies on the remaining suspended products. "E.S.P. is an important product to Barr and American consumers and we are pleased to announce its reintroduction," said Bruce Downey, president, Barr Laboratories. "We continue to work with FDA and expect reintroduction of other products over the next several weeks." -0- 5/19/93 /CONTACT: Harold Cohen of Barr Laboratories, 914-362-2823/ (BRL)
