BARR LABORATORIES RESTRUCTURES

POMONA, N.Y., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Barr Laboratories, Inc. (AMEX: BRL) announced a restructuring today as a result of a court order issued by the federal court in Newark, N.J., on Thursday, Feb. 4. The restructuring involves a reduction in Barr's work force of approximately 20 percent, primarily in the manufacturing area.
The court directed the temporary suspension of 24 Barr products (PRNewswire NY001 Friday, Feb. 5). The order requires Barr to submit certain product data to the court as a condition of lifting the suspensions. Because it is difficult for Barr to forecast how long the products will be suspended, it is also difficult to determine how long the reduction in Barr's work force will continue.
"None of the judges's issues concern health and safety," said Barr President Bruce Downey. "We are in the process of complying with the court's directives. Our immediate goal is to bring the suspended products back as quickly as possible and put people back to work."
