BARNETT OFFERS PACKAGE FOR MIDDLE-MARKET CUSTOMER

BARNETT OFFERS PACKAGE FOR MIDDLE-MARKET CUSTOMER
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Barnett Bank has

introduced a packaged account that combines free checking with a no-fee, low-rate credit card and significant discounts on other banking services.
The Edge Account is targeted at middle-income customers who might not qualify for Barnett's other personal packaged accounts. It is intended to give them services they frequently would buy in a special package that only requires them to maintain combined balances of $1,500 in savings and transaction accounts to avoid a monthly fee.
 The Edge Account includes:
-- A checking account with no monthly or per-item charges.
-- A five dollar discount on all check orders.
-- A no-fee credit card featuring fixed finance charges of 16.5 percent, below Barnett's usual 18 percent fixed rate. There is no grace period. Finance charges begin on the day of transaction.
-- A 50 percent discount on overdraft protection from savings accounts and free protection on any Barnett credit card.
-- $100,000 in common carrier insurance.
The Edge Account also offers the convenience of 24-hour banking at more than 600 ATM's in Florida and Georgia with Barnett's SuperCard and access to B.A.R.T., Barnett's telebanking service, as well as a combined deposit statement.
With the Edge Account, Barnett "demonstrates its commitment not only to the high-income and seniors markets, but to customers in the broader middle-market segments in Florida and Georgia," said Thomas P. Johnson Jr., Barnett's chief retail banking executive.
The Edge Account benefits customers under 55 years of age who don't qualify for Barnett's Senior Partners Account, and customers who have not built up enough equity to qualify for Barnett's Premier Account.
(Note: To Receive interest on checking, customers must maintain combined balances of $4,000 or more.)
With $32.6 billion in assets and 596 offices in Florida and Georgia, Barnett Banks, Inc. is Florida's leading financial institution and the 19th-largest in the United States. Its stock (BBI) is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
