BARNETT DEBUTS ELECTRONIC BANKING FOR SMALL BUSINESSES
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Barnett Bank (NYSE: BBI) has become the first financial institution in its markets to offer a comprehensive electronic banking system designed and engineered especially for small businesses.
The system gives these businesses access to account information through personal computers and allows most banking transactions to be completed from their offices.
"The Barnett Connection" features a specially designed software package that links the small-business customer's personal computer to a central Barnett computer. This link allows users to retrieve and store updated information on up to 10 separate business and personal accounts.
Customers will be able to make balance inquiries on their business and personal accounts for checking and savings, as well as determine the current balance on commercial loans. In addition, the system allows customers to transfer funds between accounts, obtain updated transaction information at the start of every business day, reconcile account registers and even write checks from their personal computers.
"This is an exciting banking innovation that gives small business owners more direct control over their finances with an unprecedented level of convenience," said Douglas K. Freeman, Barnett's chief corporate banking executive. "We are putting in the hands of small businesses the financial management tools previously available only to large corporations. This should make them more efficient and more profitable."
Barnett serves more small businesses in Florida than any other financial institution.
To join "The Barnett Connection," customers simply purchase the required software, available exclusively from Barnett. In addition, Barnett has developed an agreement with Inacomp Computer Centers, where customers will have an opportunity to purchase an IBM PS/1 386 personal computer at a significant discount.
The basic software package is $99; an optional checkwriting feature brings the software total to $149. Monthly usage fees will be assessed based on the number of accounts included on the system.
With $32.7 billion in assets and 593 offices in Florida and Georgia, Barnett Banks, Inc., is the leading financial institution in Florida and the 20th-largest in the United States. Its stock (BBI) is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
