BARNETT CONTINUES AS FLORIDA'S MORTGAGE LENDER
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Feb. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Barnett Bank increased

its dominance of Florida residential mortgage lending in 1991, improving its share of the market to 9.13 percent by October 1991 from 8.56 percent for 1990. At the close of 1991, Barnett's servicing portfolio topped the $10 billion mark.
Despite a sluggish economy in 1991, Barnett generated more than 21,000 new mortgage loans, totaling $1.9 billion, better than its two closest competitors combined. The company is first, second or third among mortgage lenders in 38 of 45 Florida counties where it operates. From a $1 billion servicing portfolio in 1983, Barnett has grown into the 29th-largest mortgage servicing firm in the U.S.
Much of Barnett's success can be traced to its attention to service and knowledge of the market. "We have demonstrated over time our commitment to mortgage lending," said James R. Griffiths, president of Barnett Mortgage Company. "Our expertise, combined with a tradition of customer service, has allowed us to continue to attract customers, even in these uncertain times."
A responsive array of products has also made mortgage loans both more accessible and affordable. For example, Barnett's Home Ownership Made Easy (H.O.M.E.) program is designed to help families with low-to- moderate income qualify for mortgage loans. Another program, Mortgage Advantage, offers a number of other Barnett services to mortgage borrowers either at no cost or at a discounted fee.
With $32.7 billion in assets and 592 offices in Florida and Georgia, Barnett Banks, Inc. is Florida's leading financial institution, and the 20th-largest in the United States. Its stock (BBI) is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
