BARNETT BOARD NAMES TWO NEW DIRECTORS

 JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Two new directors were named Wednesday to the board of Barnett Banks, Inc. (NYSE: BBI), announced Charles E. Rice, chairman. They are Armando M. Codina, Miami, and Tom L. Rankin, Tampa.
 "We are pleased to have these distinguished Florida businessmen join us," Rice said, "bringing with them a wealth of experience and extensive knowledge of their areas of the state."
 Codina, 45, is founder and chairman of The Codina Bush Group Inc., a real estate investment, development and management firm. He is a director of American Bankers Insurance Group, Inc., BellSouth Corp., CSR Construction Materials (USA), Inc., CSR Concrete Pipes (USA), Inc. and Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc.
 Rankin, 52, is chairman and chief executive officer of Lykes Bros. Inc. He was a director of First Florida Banks, Inc. and chairman of the 7L Corp., which merged with Barnett on Dec. 7, 1992, and has continued as chairman of First Florida Bank, N.A.
 He is also chairman and chief executive officer of Shore Management, Inc. and Lykes Energy, Inc.; a director of Media General, Inc.; chairman of the Florida Taxation & Budget Reform Commission and past chairman and director of Associated Industries of Florida.
 Other members of Barnett's board are: Rice; Allen L. Lastinger Jr., Barnett's president and chief operating officer; Walter H. Alford, executive vice president and general counsel of BellSouth Corporation, Atlanta; Rita Bornstein, president of Rollins College, Winter Park; James L. Broadhead, chairman and chief executive officer, FPL Group, Inc., N. Palm Beach; Marshall M. Criser, partner, Mahoney Adams & Criser, P.A., Jacksonville; Jack B. Critchfield, chairman and chief executive officer, Florida Progress Corp., St. Petersburg; Jean McArthur Davis, chairman, McArthur Management Company and McArthur Farms, Inc., Miami; Carter H. Golembe, president, CHG Consulting, Inc., Delray Beach, and chairman emeritus, The Secura Group, Washington, D.C.; Clarence V. McKee, chairman, president and chief executive officer, McKee Communications, Inc., Tampa; Frederick H. Schultz, owner of Schultz Investments, Jacksonville; Stewart Turley, chairman, president and chief executive officer, Jack Eckerd Corporation, Clearwater; and John A. Williams, chairman, Post Properties, Inc., Atlanta.
