BARNES & NOBLE INTRODUCES 'THE BARNES & NOBLE NEW AMERICAN ENCYCLOPEDIA' -- BOOKSTORE MAKES AWARD-WINNING ENCYCLOPEDIA ACCESSIBLE AND AFFORDABLE
NEW YORK, Nov. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Barnes & Noble, Inc., the world's leading book retailer, today announced the publication of "The Barnes & Noble New American Encyclopedia." This 20-volume set, published in conjunction with Grolier, is being sold for only $299 and is available exclusively in over 200 Barnes & Noble and B. Dalton Bookseller stores across the country and through the stores' catalogs.
"Our customers were telling us that they wanted quality, comprehensive reference material at an accessible price. Our new Encyclopedia is in response to that message," explained Steve Riggio, executive vice president of Barnes & Noble. "And, we're very happy that it gave us the opportunity to form an association with a company of the calibre of Grolier," he added.
With 28,780 articles, 12,550 color and 4,180 black and white illustrations, over 1,000 maps and 200,000 index entries, The Barnes & Noble New American Encyclopedia is an attractive alternative to its competitors -- World Book Encyclopedia, Collier's Encyclopedia and New Encyclopedia Brittanica -- and is at least half, and in some cases, less than one-third the price.
The American Library Association recommends the set for "...junior high, senior high, academic, and public library collections and home use." It also praised The Barnes & Noble New American Encyclopedia "...for its concise presentation of factual material, its objectivity, and its outstanding illustrations."
Barnes & Noble, Inc., is the world's largest privately owned bookselling organization. With 17,000 employees and 1,200 stores nationwide, Barnes & Noble Inc. includes: B. Dalton Bookseller, Inc., Barnes & Noble Bookstores, Bookstop, Doubleday Book Shops, Scribner's Bookstores, MBS Textbook Exchange, Software Etc., and Marboro Books Corp.
