BARGOED............................20 BEDWAS..............................26.

BARGOED'S aimless kicking in the opening quarter gave them just too much to do in the later stages as Bedwas ended a three-match losing run. Bedwas led 17-0 and then 17-7 at half-time before the home side woke up and it was touch and go in the final minutes.

It was Steffan Jones who took Bedwas into an early lead as his side ran back a poor home kick and Jones went over before also landing the conversion.

Another aimless kick saw Bedwas again take advantage and it was lock James Richards, who kicked on and regathered well to score with Jones adding the extras.

But, after a Jones penalty it was Bargoed who suddenly woke up and it was propScott Evans, on loan from Oakdale, who scored and full back Matthew Lewis converted.

The second half saw the tide turn as Bargoed grew stronger and on the hour, lock and acting captain Louis Blacker went over between the posts for Lewis to convert.

Jones then kicked two penalties but Lewis notched one for Bargoed and three minutes from time he added another.

However, despite great effort by Bargoed it was their old boy Jones who clinched the Bedwas win with his fourth penalty.
