WASHINGTON, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- America's former First Lady is still first in the hearts of her countrymen as their choice for leading real-life mom respondents would call (in addition to their own mom) on Mother's Day. These results are according to the third annual Mother's Day Poll conducted by MCI Communications Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: MCIC).
FORMER FIRST LADY IS FIRST IN PHONE CALLS
Barbara Bush (29 percent) is preferred more than 2 to 1 over Hillary Clinton (12 percent) when it comes to mothers people would most like to call on Mother's Day, according to the national poll of more than 1,000 adults. Princess Di (7 percent) and Tipper Gore (2 percent) were a distant third and fourth, respectively.
Hillary Clinton was slightly favored in the 18-24 age group, while Barbara Bush remained the mature choice. Of Americans over 55, 41 percent would call Barbara Bush.
KATHIE LEE ... "REGIS"-TERS AS TOP TV MOM
Kathie Lee Gifford, co-host of "Live with Regis & Kathie Lee," is talk of the town as TV's top mom with 16 percent of the vote. Tied for second were Cindy Walsh (14 percent) of "Beverly Hills 90210" and new mom Murphy Brown (14 percent) of the show by the same name. Rounding out the top TV moms were Roseanne Connor (7 percent) of "Roseanne" and Marge Simpson (5 percent) of "The Simpsons."
MOST ADMIRED MOTHER IN HISTORY: THE ORIGINAL MADONNA
Selecting the most admired mother in history was a tough call. MCI poll results revealed a tie (14 percent each) between two leading ladies: respondents' own mothers and Mary, Mother of Jesus.
Barbara Bush, the nation's top mom in two previous MCI Mother's Day polls, didn't fare as well this year as the most admired mom in all of history. Mother Theresa (10 percent) and Eleanor Roosevelt (5 percent) both edged out Barbara (4 percent). Other mothers mentioned include June Cleaver, Mother Hale, Betsy Ross, Rose Kennedy and Indira Gandhi.
MOTHERLY ADVICE: MADONNA IS MOST IN NEED
When it comes to motherly advice, 31 percent of respondents believed Madonna -- the queen of pop -- is most in need. Saddam Hussein, the tiresome tyrant of Baghdad, placed a distant second (20 percent) while Mike Tyson championed 16 percent of the vote. Garnering less than 10 percent each were Joey Buttafuoco, Woody Allen and Howard Stern.
 CONVERSATIONS WITH MY MOTHER
Just how often does the average person talk to his or her mom? The MCI Mother's Day poll revealed that a substantial majority of respondents (68 percent) talk with their mothers at least once a week. This means Americans and their moms are speaking:
 Every day (33 percent)
More than once a week (35 percent)
2-3 times each month (20 percent)
 Once a month ( 5 percent)
Less than once a month ( 6 percent)
Women are more likely to talk with their mothers once a day while men are more likely to talk with Mom more than once a week.
MOM IS WAITING TO HEAR FROM YOU
Traditionally one of the busiest calling days of the year, Mother's Day is prime time for children to call or visit Mom at home.
Poll results indicate that most people (16 percent) surveyed speak with their mother 1-2 hours on Mother's Day, whether in person or over the telephone. Another 13 percent talk 15-29 minutes. And, for one in 10, Mother's Day is an all-day visit, saying they talk eight hours or more.
 The breakdown:
 Under 15 minutes ( 6 percent)
 15-29 minutes (13 percent)
 30-59 minutes (13 percent)
 1-2 hours (16 percent)
 2-3 hours (11 percent)
 3-7 hours (23 percent)
8 hours or more (10 percent)
Not at all ( 4 percent)
Consistent with everyday calling, more women (18 percent) talk to their moms for 1-2 hours on Mother's Day while men (18 percent) were more likely to talk from 15-29 minutes.
