BANKERS TRUST $300 MILLION NOTES RATED 'AA' BY FITCH
-- FITCH FINANCIAL WIRE --
NEW YORK, Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Bankers Trust New York Corp.'s $300 million 7.25 percent senior notes due 1996 are rated 'AA' by Fitch. The credit trend is stable.
Bankers Trust's current level of profitability, strong liquidity characteristics, and risk-adjusted capital ratios all provide important support for the rating. While the trend of improvement in the consolidated return on average assets (ROA) was obscured by special charges taken in 1987 and again in 1989, the annualized ROA for the first nine months of 1991 was a healthy 1.19 percent.
This higher profitability, coupled with the overall reduction in risk assets, has boosted the company's total risk adjusted capital ratio to 6.00 percent as of Sept. 30, 1991. This measure is comfortably above the corresponding ratio reported by most other large U.S. banking companies. The company has reduced its overall balance sheet risk as relates to asset quality; average loans declined from 53 percent of average assets in 1986 to about 31 percent during the third quarter of 1991. At the same time, Bankers Trust faces increased revenue and nc?ome vola ti ty because of greater reliance on noninterest revenue sources.
